You have just finished your open water or advanced diving course, or maybe you are planning your next diving experience. As you look up all the amazing dive sites around the world, be it the amazing shallow waters with coral reefs or the thousands of wrecks that you can explore, you will notice something.
A lot of these deep dive sites go down below 30m, the depth limit for Advanced. So why not study for the Deep Diver Specialty certification on Koh Tao and be able to go to a maximum depth of 40m?
When you reach your dream diving destination and you look down on everything there is to see down there, all you wish is that you could go and explore that extra remaining bit.
Well, with the SSI Deep Diving Specialty, it opens up a whole new area you can explore as you will be certified to go down to a maximum depth of 40m, the deepest you can go as a recreational diver, allowing you to see some of the rest of what dive sites have to offer.
Following SSI’s approach to diving, the theory has gone fully digital, all the reading, quizzes and exam can now be done through the MySSI app. This can be done in advance of the course if you want more beach time. But there is still plenty of time to do it here.
The specialty course consists of a minimum of three dives, where we take you down progressively deeper depths. Your dive professional will teach you everything you need to know to be safe and comfortable at these new depths and explore the deeper parts of our popular dive sites.
The first dive is between 18m and 30m, you may have already done this as part of your advanced course. The overall objective is to train you to plan, prepare, and experience a deep dive. Reaching the maximum depth limit is secondary to teaching proper dive planning and preparation for deep dives. If visibility or water conditions do not permit, limit your depth to only slightly deeper than 18 meters.
The second dive is between 24m and 30m where you should be able to plan your dive with minimal assistance from your instructor.
The third dive between 30m and 40m, where you should be able to plan and execute you dive without assistance from the instructor. The divers should experience depths below those reached during the previous dives if diving conditions permit. The deeper dive sites such as Chumphon Pinnacle or Sail Rock are the obvious choices when possible and the best chance of seeing whale sharks.
We also play some simple games at depth to test your response times and awareness, keeping it fun as well as an educational course. Without the proper training diving to these depths has a much greater risk.
How deep can you dive on Koh Tao?
The Deep Diver scuba diving certification course consists of theory and 3 dives and takes 2 days. You can read all of the theories and complete the exam before you get here through online learning with the MySSI app. Giving you information on diving skills, gas consumption and some additional skills for example.

The deep diver specialty course is 8,500b and you will need to pay a non-refundable deposit of 2,000b and includes equipment and dive computer rental. You can change the course start date as many times as you need with 24 hours of notice.
As we make 2 dives per dive trip you can make and additional fun dive for 700b. If you already have 1 or more deep adventure dives from an advanced course you need only 2 dives to complete the specialty and the cost is 7,500b,
This price only covers diver training scuba equipment rental and doesn’t include accommodation but this can be arranged. We have AC dorm beds by the beach through our partner resort if you want 2 nights accommodation with a beachside restaurant.

A word on payment …
You can book in advance for the deep diver specialty by paying a deposit you will receive a confirmation email within 24 hours from our staff. Where we will ask you to confirm your arrival time and date and the ferry company name. Do not worry if you have not booked a ferry yet.
By sending this request and payment you are submitting a reservation for your diving courses. Ensure that you have read and understood our terms and conditions.
Please ensure that you read the medical form and if you have to answer yes to any questions you will require medical clearance by a diving doctor. While this is available on Koh Tao some pre-existing conditions may require sign-off by your doctor or specialist.
If in doubt please ensure the medical questionnaire is completed before leaving your home country. Some medical conditions are not suitable for diving and may preclude you from diving.
