What Diving School To Choose On Koh Tao
If you are interested in choosing what diving school you want for your scuba diving certification and you’re looking for some inside local wisdom before you make your choice, you have come to the right place.
How To Choose A Diving School
What consideration should be on your mind when deciding what diving school to choose. Diving quality, experience, professionalism, equipment condition, location, and accommodation are all our key rating factors when it comes to choosing the best diving school, regardless of where it might be. For some, being family-friendly may be really important, too.
On a recent trip to Koh Tao, a friend of mine decided to get diving certification while in Thailand. We audited the best Koh Tao dive shops we found and chose which one of them our friend should learn to dive with.
Diving Quality, Experience, Accommodation & Location
There are a lot of dive sites in Koh Tao, Thailand and you are absolutely spoiled for choice. From shipwrecks to caves, there is bound to be something for everyone at all levels. Below is a list of some of the dive sites. Dive shops from Samui and Phangan all come here for diving.
Dive Sites In Koh Tao Include:
- Shark Island (advanced)
- Aow Leuk (easy)
- Tanote Bay (easy)
- Laem Thian (intermediate)
- Hin Wong Pinnacle (intermediate)
- Lighthouse (beginner)
- Mango Bay (beginner)
- Red Rock (beginner)
- Japanese Gardens (beginner)
- Green Rock (intermediate)
- No Name Pinnacle (advanced)
- HTMS Sattakut (advanced)
- Chumphon Pinnacle (intermediate)
- White Rock (intermediate)
Any time we’ve seen photos of these dive sites –and I’m talking amateur photographs on socail media– they’re always impeccable. A little experience with a polarising lens, and you can really make that Koh Tao diving photography pop.
Scuba Diving Equipment
With such fine diving spots, our next consideration was the service we were given, the state of their equipment (looking for wear and tear, safety), and whether or not they were patient enough to deal with kids (because sometimes I need things explained to me like I’m 5).
We observed how dive shops spoke with possible customers, especially those with kids. When we eventually chose our Koh Tao dive shop, we were joined by another family. Mojo handled the inexperience and fears of an adolescent kid very well.
And finally, diving accommodation in Koh Tao could be better, but Mojo won us over in this regard. Right on the beach, folks.
If there’s one thing I love almost as much as a family of whale sharks, it’s sunset and Singha.
