Open Water and Advanced 30m
Planning on doing your Open Water course on Koh Tao this year, why not combine your diving with the Advanced course as well? Why would you do that?
The open water course takes you to 18m max but the Advanced course takes you to 30m maximum.
Many of the dive sites around Asia and other parts of the world have depths beyond 18m so why restrict yourself to only seeing a smaller part of a dive site? Another benefit is if you book both courses together you will get a cheaper price.
The open water is 9,000b, the advanced is 8,500b, a total of 17,500b. If you book the open water and advanced together and the price is 16,500b, who can resist a bargain? And you can also get 5 nights AC dorm accommodation by the beach for an additional 1,500b if booked at least 48 hours in advance, subject to availability.
Do you need private accommodation instead? Please ask for details.
Let’s Go Digital
Once you have your diving licenses they never expire, you can keep on diving with them for as long as you want. It doesn’t expire, you might need a Scuba Review if you don’t dive for a while, but you always have it.
Scuba diving licenses are now digital, you never have to worry about losing or forgetting a physical card. And your dive logbook is now digital, all your details are always available. No old-fashioned plastic cards and paper logbooks.
What Is The Open Water Course?
The Open Water course allows you to go 18m depth once you complete the course, sounds deep? Don’t worry we start off in a shallow pool to begin your training.
The next day we progress to your first two dives in the sea to a max depth of 12m. On the last day, we make two more dives to a max depth of 18m.
It’s not all about being in the water though, you do have to read a manual and pass an exam. But that is easy so don’t worry. And the course only takes 3 days, in 2 more days you can get the advanced license.

What Is The Advanced Course?
The Advanced course is 5 dives over 2 days and takes you to a max of 30m, unlike the open water course there is very little academic work and no exam. It’s learning more practical skills to make you a better and safer diver.
We normally start with navigation and buoyancy dives as you will use the knowledge learned in the remaining dives.
We do a deep dive to 30m and a wreck dive on the HTMS Sattakut and a night dive on the first or second days. That’s it, in 5 days you start in 1.5m and progress to 30m! Within 5 days you would have got the open water and advanced courses.
Why Choose Mojo Divers?
Why choose Mojo Divers for your open water and advanced courses? We are a small school with friendly staff, with our own boat and equipment, unlike other small schools that rent spaces and equipment from others.
Why is that important? It means we choose which dive sites are best for our customers and we can alter the timetable to make it convenient and we are not reliant on others.
We don’t have a huge boat, it can take up to 30 people, but it will not be so full of people getting in each other’s way and taking all the biscuits (some things are important). And we can get close to dive sites, unlike those with big boats.
These are small but important things to consider when choosing your dive school. We also keep our class sizes small to give our customers more attention, with no more than 4 customers to 1 instructor.
How Much Does The Open Water and Advanced Cost?
For 2023 both courses are 16,500b each for anyone booking for 1 or 2 people, saving you 1,000b each. With accommodation options available on Sairee Beach, please ask for details.
Is Koh Tao Good For Diving?
Oh yeah, being an island we can dive all year round unlike the west coast of Thailand which has a short diving season due to the monsoon winds. Here, we just dive on the sheltered side of the island and most dive sites are 10 to 15 minutes away, not hours away so you can 2 dives in the morning and still be back in time for breakfast.
Or have your lunch and make 2 dives and be back in time to watch the sunsets. The furthest dive sites are 45 minutes away, Chumphon and South West Pinnacles. If you do the open water and advanced you get to see the best dive sites.
Do you want to know more about a Koh Tao diving course? Feel free to contact us and one of our team of dive professionals will answer any questions quickly to see what scuba program is right for you.
We have a variety of diving courses available with the SSI diving training organization.
